The colon is a SEWAGE SYSTEM! By neglect and abuse it becomes a cesspool. When it is clean and normal, we are well and happy; let it stagnate and it will distribute the poisons of decay, fermentation, and putrification into the blood. This poisons the following systems of the body:
The brain and nervous system and makes us depressed and irritable.
The heart, so we are weak and listless.
The lungs, so our breath is foul.
The digestive organs, so we become distressed and bloated.
The skin becomes sallow, wrinkled and unhealthy.
The glands, so we feel tired, lack enthusiasm and sex drive, feel and look old beyond our years.
In short, every organ in the body is poisoned and the pleasure of living is gone. Colonics can help alleviate a multitude of ailments, helping to restore health and vitality.
What is a colonic?
Colonic irrigation gently cleanses the colon by filling and emptying it with purified water at varying degrees. You lie relaxed on a table during the procedure; actual treatment time usually lasts from 25-35 minutes. A licensed colon therapist massages your abdomen, and varies the water temperature to improve the peristaltic action. We use a closed system, meaning all waste leaves the body and goes right into the plumbing.
The benefits of colonics
Colon Therapy is a method of cleansing the colon, also referred to as the large intestine, of accumulated fecal matter, mucus, harmful toxins, and bacteria. When toxic waste remains in the colon it feeds harmful bacteria causing such symptoms as bloating, gas, weight gain, headaches, skin conditions, and lethargy to name just a few. The colon is approximately five feet long and is layered with muscles. Colonics help to stimulate and exercise these muscles. Like any muscle, if it is not toned and working efficiently, it will become sluggish and not work at an optimum level. If you are not eliminating 20 to 30 minutes after each meal, then your colon is not working efficiently and you are considered constipated.
Learning to listen to your body
When you are in a state of ill health, your body loses the ability to communicate to you. Most conventional treatments only address the symptoms of illness, and not the causes. By cleansing your system with colonic irrigation, you will remove a potential source for disease and create an environment for health.
How we are nourished
A human is nourished and maintained not by what he or she eats, but by what is digested. The kind and quality of food you put into your body – and how well the body processes and uses that food – is crucial to every phase of your existence. The body has been compared to a furnace and food to the fuel that stokes it. Most of us think of any food as adding to that caloric fire, but nutrition is more complicated than that. We are not internal combustion machines, but live organisms made up of some 60 trillion tiny cells. Real nutrition involves ‘feeding’ those cells, replenishing them, replacing the ones that have died off, and speeding the waste out of our bodies before it can decay and become toxic. We are sustained even when we eat food that does not do this, but our tissue cells are not regenerated. We age more quickly and are not as healthy as we might be. In this twilight zone of health, we often are not really sick though we may suffer from any number of complaints, but neither are we well. The physical process of digestion involves the cooperation of a number of major organs. Chief among them is the colon, which may be one of the least understood and most neglected organs of the body.
What is the colon?
The small and large intestines, with the help of enzymes from the liver and pancreas, change food into a form that the body can use for energy and repair. The final part of the digestive tract, the colon is about five feet long and has an average diameter of 2.5 inches. It must handle the bulk of the food we eat. Its lining includes sensitive nerves and glands that aid in the assimilation of food, especially vitamins, minerals, and water. A healthy colon is essential to a healthy body. When the colon is working properly, its peristaltic (muscular, wave-like motions) move food through the system and eliminate unassimilated substances in the form of waste within 16-24 hours of eating. The elimination of undigested food and other waste products is as important as the proper digestion and assimilation of food. Waste allowed to remain too long in the digestive system feed harmful bacteria. This brings large numbers of white corpuscles to the digestive system to fight the bacteria. Their presence interferes with the absorption of nutrients from the food we eat. An internal war ensues, which prevents healthy bacteria also in the colon from doing their job, thus providing a breeding ground for sickness and disease. The system breaks down.
A system in disrepair
Our colon has been designed with an efficient system for elimination. Unfortunately, for most of us, the design has been disturbed. A lifetime of poor eating habits, insufficient exercise, lack of proper amounts of water, emotional and physical stresses cause the system to degenerate. Toxic waste accumulates within the 60,000 miles of blood vessels, lymph glands, joints, and cells. The largest amount of this waste is found in the linings of the colon, from 5-15 pounds in the average adult American. The presence of these toxins can cause constipation, diarrhea, lack of energy, and countless other ailments. They interfere with the lymphatic systems ability to cleanse and therefore affect the condition of every cell and every organ in our body.
When the material collected in the colon becomes toxic, it will pass into the blood stream as a poison. Many of us are constipated without even realizing it. You may have a bowel movement every day and still have a colon packed with accumulated waste. The effects of this degeneration can be immediate; as seen with the onset of headaches, colds, skin problems, lethargy, indigestion, and allergies. In the case of more serious conditions, disease may take years to develop.
Your colon and what you eat
To work at its full potential, our system needs quality foods that do not clog the colon. This means a diet rich in raw fruits, vegetables, sprouts, and nuts eaten in the proper combination. Raw foods act as an ‘intestinal broom’ to help keep waste matter moving along the intestinal tract. With the proper intake of fiber, (25 grams per day) our body will better be able to eliminate. However, most conventional diets are comprised of refined, greasy, or processed foods, which along with heavily cooked starches, dairy, hormone filled meat, can leave a coating of slime on the inner walls of the colon much like plaster on a building.
Drugs and alcohol also contribute to this toxic waste. Over time, the coating increases in thickness until there is only a small hole through which matter can pass. Instead of furnishing nourishment to the colon, such foods actually starve it. A starved colon may let fecal matter pass through it, but it is unable to carry on the final digestive process and regenerating functions for which it was intended. It is not enough to change your diet. Unless the toxins already in the system are removed, they can be re-absorbed. You must rid yourself of these byproducts of years on misuse. Chronic constipation may lead to stretching of the bowel, or an atonic colon. The colon is a muscle and will stretch like a balloon if eliminations are not done daily. Minimally, one large bowel movement every day. To be considered healthy, three movements per day.
