Used by cavemen to heat themselves by fires; by Romans in their hypocausts, by log burners and tile stoves, Infrared heating has been favoured for millennia because like the heat of the sun on your surrounding environment – even during winter – Infrared heats objects, which then radiate back and keep the environment

How is infrared used?
Infrared (IR) light is used by electrical heaters, cookers for cooking food, short-range communications like remote controls, optical fibres, security systems and thermal imaging cameras which detect people in the dark. The heating effect of IR can cause burns to the skin.
What is infrared heat and how is it used in cooking?
Infrared heat is the type of electromagnetic radiation used in microwave ovens. Because infrared heat penetrates and agitates food molecules instead of heating the surrounding area, food cooks very quickly. This feature gave microwave ovens vast popularity particularly in North America.
How does infrared transmit heat?
Infrared radiation is popularly known as “heat radiation”, but light and electromagnetic waves of any frequency will heat surfaces that absorb them. Infrared light from the Sun accounts for 49% of the heating of Earth, with the rest being caused by visible light that is absorbed then re-radiated at longer wavelengths.
What is infrared sauna used for?
Infrared sauna therapy helps you relax while getting an invigorating deep tissue sweat, leaving you fully refreshed, rejuvenated & renewed. Unlike traditional saunas, infrared saunas provide a gentle, soothing therapeutic heat that promotes relaxation & improved sleep.
What is infrared and how does it work?
Like visible light, infrared (IR) radiation, sometimes called infrared light, is a type of electromagnetic radiation. Infrared detectors make it possible to “see” in the dark by converting heat emitted naturally by any object above absolute zero into an electronic signal, which is then used to generate an image.
Why is infrared used for cooking?
In short, infrared radiation ensures food is heated via radiation and not convection, and thus provides far more even, consistent heat across the entire grill.
Why is infrared used for heating?
Infrared waves travel through the air and when they touch a surface, heat energy is released regardless of the surrounding air temperature. That heat energy excites the molecules in the object it meets which being to vibrate and gain energy (and warm up).
How are infrared waves used in remote controls?
An IR remote (also called a transmitter) uses light to carry signals from the remote to the device it controls. It emits pulses of invisible infrared light that correspond to specific binary codes. Once the signal is decoded, the microprocessor executes the commands.
The internal energy may be increased by transferring energy to the object from a higher temperature (hotter) object – this is properly called heating. Thus the energy carried away by the infrared radiation reduces the heat content of the radiating body. This is the connection of infrared to heat.
How hot can infrared get?
Quartz tungsten infrared heaters emit medium wave energy reaching operating temperatures of up to 1,500 °C (2,730 °F) (medium wave) and 2,600 °C (4,710 °F) (short wave). They reach operating temperature within seconds.
How often should you use an infrared heating pad?
For the first two or three weeks we recommend THERMOTEX™ be applied twice a day (for chronic pain the pad may be used three or four times per day). After that, THERMOTEX™ use may not be needed as often but we do recommend daily use. This is particularly important for chronic and inflammatory conditions.
Does infrared heat reduce inflammation?
Infrared saunas stimulate cardiovascular circulation with oxygen-rich blood flow, producing white blood cells to reduce inflammation and calm swelling to alleviate chronic pain.
How long should you use an infrared heating pad?
It all depends on the level of pain and your tolerance to heat. Even so, if you use a heating pad on a high setting, remove after 15 to 30 minutes to avoid burns. On a low setting, you can use the heating pad for a longer period, maybe up to one hour.
